Blitzkrieg, how the Germans conquered Europe
Blitzkrieg
During the first years of World War II, the Germans used a highly efficient tactic called Blitzkrieg (Lightning War) which consisted in the use of fast and light vehicles and tanks to swiftly pass and destroy the enemy defences. The most famous use of Blitzkrieg was the invasion of France in 1940, which the Germans won after only 6 weeks of war.
This tactic was created by Hitler’s generals in early 1939 in case of war with France or with the U.S.S.R. because all the generals were veterans of the Great War (Hitler himself was a veteran and nearly got killed by a bombshell in Belgium) and remembered the charges through no man’s
land and of the brutal gas used in the last year of the war. For these reasons they developed this very efficient tactic.Blitzkrieg was started being used during the invasion of Poland and was later used in France and had a large use during the invasion of the U.S.S.R. The most famous project about Blitzkrieg was the Manstein Plan (the plan for the invasion of France) which involved passing through the Ardennes and surprising the French and the British. In my opinion, Blitzkrieg is one of the most successful tactics of World War II.
