Berlin, The Reich's final battle

 Berlin

After the battle of Stalingrad, the Soviets started to advance and to recover the territory they lost in the last three years. After two years of war and offensives, the Soviets arrived to the gates of Berlin. The downfall of Germany made also another ally advance deep into the German occupied zones: Britain and America.

It all started after the Germans lost Stalingrad, because the Soviets understood that they could win the war. Some weeks after the battle, the soviets were already recovering many lost territories and gave the German army many heavy losses. The pressure on Germany had increased because their ally, Japan, declatred war on the United States and so they had to prepare also a defensive tactic in case of an American attack (which arrived in 1944). Returning to us, the 27th of April 1945 the Red Army fully encircled the city, and from then to the 2nd of May, there will be a ferocious urban fight.

The true battle started on the 16th of April, when 8893 heavy artillery pieces and Katiusha Missile Launchers bombarded Berlin and the nearby zones, destroying a forest. Right after the bombardmement, around 6,500,000 soldiers penetrated Berlin, and hell sterted for all. The soldiers spent 17 days fighting adevastating urban guerrilla and being unable to distinguish day and night because of the thick layer of powder above Berlin, which will cause the death of many veterans for respiratory problems.

The Soviets advanced more and more into the core of Berlin, until reaching , on the 1st of May, the Reichtag. The Reichtag was the parliament of Germany until 1945 and the Generals stayed there, but also one man stayed there: Hitler. Hitler went into the underground bunker in the Reichtag and when he heard the Soviets arriving, he first took a pill of poison, then he shot himself and his spouse Eva Braun. At the Soviets' arrival, they found the two bodies holding hand and they cremated the two, which now are in an unnamed tomb in Berlin.

The battle of Berlin was one of the most violent of the war and it led to the death of many veterans because of the powders in the sky. But thankfully, the battle happened and the Soviets won, starting a new historical age.
